ACTIVITIES OF   DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS   2017 – 2018

WORLD POPULATION DAY

 “WORLD POPULATION DAY” was observed on 11 th July 2017by the department of Economics. On this day students presented PPTs, Elocution ,  Drawing  and Painting Competitions conducted on Population explosion.



 GUEST LECTURE

The  department has arranged a guest lecture on 25thjuly 2017 for BA students.
Topic: GST-impact on Indian economy.
Resource person: Prof. C.S.N Raju ,Retired Head, Department of Economics, ANU.



LEADERSHIP TRAINING CAMP
        A  Two day leadership training camp for students was organized by  Department  jointly with M.R Pai foundation Mumbai.
The topics are
  Communication skills,
  Self-esteem,
  Goal setting,
 Time management and
 Team work.

 Resource persons are Mr. Sachin Kamat and Mrs. Clarissa Jathana.
Chief Guest for this program is Dr.Illa Ravi,AGO, CCEGovt. Of Andhra Pradesh.



   WORLD LITERACY DAY
                                The department has arranged an awareness camp on literacy by             celebrating world literacy day on 8th September 2017.
Chief guest for the programme is Smt. Nannapaneni Raja kumari, Chairperson, Mahila Human Rights Commission ,AP. BA students portrayed a skit on the importance of literate family.





WORKSHOP

The department has arranged a workshop for final year students on    Resume preparation,Group discussion and communication skills.The resource person is Mr.KiranKuruwade, FORBES, Mumbai.





A.D .SHROFF MEMORIAL ELOCUTION COMPETITION

On 23rd September 2017 jointly with forum of free enterprise Mumbai, The department has conducted 53rd A.D Shorff memorial Elocution competition for BA students.
Topics:
Digitization,
Role of infrastructure for economic development,
Ethics in Business and Industry and
Role of youth in new nation building.


INDUSTRIAL TOUR
All the final year students taken to industrial tour on 10 January 2018 to coca-cola company Atmakur, Guntur Dt.



Input Of The Tour
Industry visits sensitize students to the practical challenges that organizations face in the business world. Industrial visits also give greater clarity about various management concepts for students as they can practically see how these concepts are put into action.
Visits to manufacturing firms are useful for students. to understand the nuances and realities of the shopfloor, which in itself is a rare exposure. By visiting the shop floor they get to understand the risky conditions in which workers work, the people management challenges involved in managing workers  apart from getting hands-on technical knowledge.
Industrial visit has its own importance in a career of a student who is pursuing a professional degree. It is considered as a part of college curriculum.
Objectives of industrial visit
To provide students an insight regarding internal working of companies.
 Theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a goodprofessional career.
With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a practical perspective on the world of work.
It provides students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices.
 It gives them exposure to current work practices as opposed to possibly theoretical knowledge being taught at college.
 Industrial visits provide an excellent opportunity to interact with industries and know more about industrial environment.
 Industrial visits are arranged by colleges to students with an objective of providing students functional opportunity in different sector.
 Industrial visit helps to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.
Industrial realities are opened to the students through industrial visits.
Industrial visits bring awareness and importance of the skill development for empowerment.
 SAMPADA – 2K18
The Department of Economics of Maris Stella College, organized a one day State Level Inter Collegiate Competitions “SAMPADA – 2K18” on January 27th 2018 .  The motive of this programme is to provide a platform to young students in the knowledge based society.  The academic arena is growing with more and more dynamism and intensified competition which demands cross functional competence.
